Hi, I am Amy Easley

Mom & I, circa 1990 in the Smokies
My earliest camera memories involved patiently waiting on the original Polaroid, the crack and sizzle of flash cubes, and the smell of developing 35mm film. My Mother encouraged me to investigate every snowy bird print and budding flower in the garden, and to express myself through various other art forms, such as poetry, painting, and drawing.
Amy Easley is a painter and photographer in the piney woods of East Texas who creates dynamic images that capture attention and invite childlike curiosity. During high school, she won numerous awards at the Tennessee State Fair in the 1990’s. She attended the Atlanta College of Art Summer Program. After graduation, she believed she wasn’t good enough and passed up the opportunity to go to art school. She pursued higher education at Baylor University in English and Environmental science but continued painting and photographing life events while also attending a Nixon workshop. Alongside her husband, she started Stillwater Refuge, a nonprofit ranch and retreat center. She spent many hours working outside while also homeschooling their four children. Amy is well-traveled nationally and internationally; even lived in Haiti as a missionary. Now, an empty-nester, she is diving deeper into the crafts. She creates visual and textural interest using various mediums and enhancing images with bold blues and shades of pink. For photography, she relies mainly on close-up imagery and the boldness of black-and-white to draw attention to detail. In 2022, she joined a local photography group to gain experience and feedback while also overhauling the images on the family business's website. In 2024, she won first place at the Texas State Fair in the black-and-white nature category, received an honorable mention in the color nature category, and had a photograph featured in her local electric co-op's annual calendar. Several of her paintings are in private collections. She occasionally holds a ladies’ painting class in her home.
Artist Statement:
Having an unstable home life as a child, I was deeply drawn to the peace and beauty of the outside world and libraries. Nature and books, for me, were the places I felt I belonged. I began sketching, painting, and photographing at a very early age. I love to create dramatic images that capture the viewer’s attention and interesting detail to invite childlike curiosity. In my photography, I like to challenge myself by slowly investigating an area, getting to know the plants, patterns of light, & animal habits. I do this by spending hours watching, listening, and photographing a single area over and over because I am intrigued by the inner workings of nature and the unique role each organism plays. For my paintings, I’m drawn to texture, layers, & lots of color to express emotions that I find difficult to put into words. I have a wide range of paint styles, from mixed-media abstracts & landscapes to watercolor. I delight in the juxtaposition of watercolor because of its soft, tender nature, which reminds me of the comfort of childhood books and slow moments.
Thank you for supporting me as this dream work unfolds. Please feel free to contact me about purchasing prints or a particular image you'd like to see captured.
Always be curious.
